Another short week. I’ve been working hard on my project. This week, I focused on the background theory, and I learnt many cool things about Incorrectness (Separation) Logic and its proofs. In short, it turns out that where we can over-approximate the effects of programs to guarantee correctness, we can also under-approximate the effects to find proof of bugs. This has been utilized in automated reasoning to great success. This is probably not news to some of you, and though it was to me, the principles made sense.

Tuesday, other than work, I went to eat with Sungmin and Martin at Nana Thai, whose Green Curry I had wanted to try for a while already. What I did not know until I had ordered it, however, is that the curry was made for more than one person to eat. I gave it my best, but I didn’t finish it in the end. It was delicious, however.

Cover of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

On Wednesday, me, Sungmin, Martin and Bernice went to the final movie of the Dollars trilogy, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Even though I went in already knowing most things that I was going to see, I was still quite impressed by how much more ambitious the movie was in scope and character development. Tuco is a delight to watch and an excellent protagonist, even if he is not the hero, and the way the war impedes upon the world of these cowboys and bounty hunters is also quite moving. An absolute recommendation from me.

On Thursday, me, Sungmin, Martin and Yuntong (colleague) went to get Ramen, near the IKEA. I should have made a picture, but I forgot. Friday evening, I took it easy.

Saturday, I met up with the neighbours for a board game night, which was fun. I introduced them to Coup, which led to at least one additional eternal duke in the world. They then introduced me to the card game The Singaporean Dream; I will have to acquire it by visiting all of Singapore’s board game shops.

Today, I felt a bit restless, and using the principle of “get the less exciting things done first”, I started reviewing a journal paper I was asked to review. I will have to continue that tomorrow. I also ate some nice indian food.

Next week, there may not be an update at the usual time, as I will be visiting Bram in Bangkok. I’m really looking forward to it. Furthermore, I also have some news: If all goes well, I will be back in the Netherlands from around 12/13 December to January 9. I will hopefully see some of you then, be able to celebrate Christmas with family and New Year’s with friends, and also be able to relax with the adorable Poekie:

Tom out.

This week, I shall recommend Doctor Who: Dark Gallifrey, the Decayed Master, for being a surprisingly good and quite atmospheric Big Finish boxset which I listened to on Friday. Though this Master does not have other standalone boxsets, I would love to hear them if they are going to be like this.
